Victoria Falls set for major transformation

 VICTORIA FALLS is set for a major tourism and investment boost following Cabinet’s approval of a strategic partnership that will pave the way for the development of a US$66,9 million integrated Tourism Park in the Masuwe Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The project, which will be implemented through a partnership between the Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company (MOTDC) and JR Goddard Contracting, is expected to transform a significant portion of the Masuwe SEZ into a modern tourism hub supported by world-class infrastructure.

Work is expected to begin around the under-construction Mosi-oa-Tunya Cricket Stadium before expanding across the wider tourism precinct. The development will provide critical infrastructure such as roads, water, sewerage systems, electricity and stormwater drainage to support investment within the 272-hectare Tourism Park located inside the 1 200-hectare Masuwe SEZ.

The project is one of the flagship tourism developments being pursued under President Mnangagwa’s development agenda, which identifies tourism as one of the key drivers of economic growth alongside mining, agriculture and manufacturing.

Since 2018, the Second Republic has prioritised infrastructure development, investment promotion and public-private partnerships as part of efforts to unlock the country’s tourism potential under the “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” policy.

Government has also adopted a cluster-based tourism strategy aimed at broadening the sector beyond traditional leisure travel into areas such as sports tourism, cultural and heritage tourism, meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), medical and wellness tourism, and community-based tourism.

This approach is supported by the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Policy (2025-2030), launched by President Mnangagwa in August last year. The policy outlines a roadmap for growing the tourism sector through infrastructure development, sustainability, digital transformation, destination competitiveness and increased private sector participation.

President Mnangagwa has repeatedly stressed that tourism should be private sector-driven, community-owned and Government-facilitated, with investments such as the Masuwe Special Economic Zone expected to create jobs, attract foreign direct investment and contribute towards the attainment of Vision 2030.

Speaking during a tour of the Mosi-oa-Tunya Cricket Oval led by Vice-President Dr Kembo Mohadi last Wednesday, MOTDC board chairperson Mr Phineas Makombe said the project marked an important step towards establishing Victoria Falls as a world-class tourism destination.

“The Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company is a State-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry with the mandate to plan, develop, manage and promote world-class tourism infrastructure in Zimbabwe’s premier tourism destination.

“In 2018, Government, through Statutory Instrument 18 of 2018, established the Masuwe Special Economic Zone to facilitate investment in tourism infrastructure and financial services over an area measuring approximately 1 200 hectares. Within this Special Economic Zone, the Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company owns and manages 272 hectares earmarked for the development of an integrated Tourism Park,” he said.

Mr Makombe said the Mosi-oa-Tunya Cricket Oval was the anchor project within the broader master plan and would help attract additional investment into the area.

“Beyond this stadium, the master plan provides for the development of internationally branded hotels and resorts, a medical and wellness precinct, a championship golf estate, commercial and recreational facilities, a Culinary and

Hospitality School to be established in partnership with UN Tourism, as well as other tourism-supporting infrastructure designed to position Victoria Falls as Africa’s leading sustainable tourism destination,” he said.

Under the joint venture agreement, MOTDC will provide 271,5 hectares of land valued at US$25,6 million as equity-in-kind, while the JR Goddard Consortium will invest US$66,9 million towards infrastructure development.

The agreement gives MOTDC a 39 percent shareholding and the consortium a 61 percent stake, with a 25-year profit recoupment period.

Planned infrastructure works include the surfacing of eight kilometres of internal roads, the upgrading of nine kilometres of gravel roads, construction of a 13-kilometre water pipeline to serve the Special Economic Zone and surrounding communities, a package water treatment plant, sewer reticulation systems, effluent reuse storage ponds and a power substation.

Mr Makombe appealed for continued Government support to protect the integrity of the Special Economic Zone and safeguard its long-term investment potential.

“While significant progress has been made, we respectfully seek continued Government support in preserving the integrity of the Masuwe Special Economic Zone. The success of this development depends on maintaining the land for its intended purpose of high-value tourism and investment projects.

“It is therefore imperative that the Special Economic Zone retains its strategic character and is protected from incompatible developments that may undermine its long-term investment potential. Cabinet has already approved our strategic partnership with JR Goddard Contracting for the development of both on-site and off-site infrastructure.”

He said the phased rollout of infrastructure would ensure future developments within the Tourism Park are supported by services built to international standards.

Strategically located within the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA), the Masuwe Special Economic Zone was established to attract investment into tourism infrastructure and financial services.

The integrated Tourism Park is expected to strengthen Zimbabwe’s tourism offering by providing high-quality facilities needed to support the continued growth of the industry.

Mr Makombe said the project demonstrates the Second Republic’s commitment to public-private partnerships and sustainable economic development.

“This project is a practical demonstration of the Second Republic’s commitment to public-private partnerships, investment promotion and sustainable economic development. It also complements the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry’s cluster-based tourism strategy, particularly in promoting sports tourism as a key pillar for attracting international visitors, creating employment and generating foreign currency,” he said.

Once completed, the development is expected to create employment opportunities, stimulate local economic activity and further position Victoria Falls as a leading tourism and investment destination in the region.

A major attraction within the development, the Mosi-oa-Tunya Cricket Stadium, is now more than 80 percent complete and is expected to host matches during the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The event is anticipated to boost Zimbabwe’s international profile and drive increased investment in tourism, hospitality, transport and related infrastructure.

US$66.9 million deal to unlock Victoria Falls transformation

 CABINET has given the green light to a Public Private Partnership (PPP) for the development of bulk infrastructure on Lot 1 of Jafuta Estate within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone (Msez), paving the way for a US$66,9 million investment that promises to reshape Victoria Falls into a modern, diversified economic hub.

The approval, announced on Tuesday, formalises a Commercial Joint Venture between Mosi Oa Tunya Development Company (MOTDC) and JR Goddard Private Limited (JRG) Consortium.

The deal will see the development of critical infrastructure across 271,5 hectares, including road networks, water supply systems, sewerage reticulation, and a power sub-station.

Speaking during a post-Cabinet briefing, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Zhemu Soda, detailed the scope of the approved project.

“Cabinet approved the Proposed Public Private Partnership for the Development of Bulk Infrastructure on Lot 1 of Jafuta Estate in Masuwe Special Economic Zone, Victoria Falls, between Mosi Oa Tunya Development Company (MTDC) and JR Goddard Private Limited (JRG), which was presented by the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion,” said Minister Soda.

He explained that the Msez, established by the Second Republic in September 2018, spans 1 200 hectares of Jafuta Estate outside Victoria Falls city and sits strategically within the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (Kaza-TFCA).

The proposed bulk infrastructure works include surfacing eight kilometres of internal roads, upgrading nine kilometres of gravel roads, constructing a 13km water pipeline covering the entire 1 200 hectares and neighbouring communities, building a package water treatment plant, a sewerage reticulation system, effluent re-use storage ponds, and a power sub-station, as well as providing management services for the Special Economic Zone.

Minister Soda said a rigorous evaluation was undertaken in line with the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (Zida) Act and PPP guidelines.

Under the joint venture, MOTDC will contribute 271,5 hectares of Jafuta Estate as equity-in-kind, valued at US$25,6 million.

The JR Goddard Consortium — comprising JR Goddard Pvt Ltd, Sesani Pvt Ltd, Stewart Scott Zimbabwe Pvt Ltd, and GGF Africa Pvt Ltd — will provide US$66,9 million for construction. Shareholding will be 39 percent for MOTDC and 61 percent for the consortium.

“Cabinet noted that if implemented, the project will unlock numerous benefits to the country including catalysing high-value investment, sovereign asset utilisation, strategic diversification of the tourism economy with world class infrastructure, sustainable fiscal contribution to                                                                    Gross Domestic Product (GDP), downstream job creation and the socio-economic upliftment of communities,” said Minister Soda.

The joint venture will operate under a 25-year structured profit recoup period, with a proportionally represented Board chaired by MOTDC, guided by the National Development Strategy 2.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry has hailed the approval as a historic milestone.

“The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry welcomes Cabinet’s approval of the Lot 1 Jafuta Estate Development project in the Masuwe Special Economic Zone for Tourism in Victoria Falls, a defining milestone in advancing Zimbabwe’s Tourism Infrastructure and Investment Landscape,” the Ministry said in a statement.

“Envisioned in 2012, this landmark project has now come to fruition today. With Masuwe Special Economic Zone for Tourism established in 2012, today marks the delivery of a long-awaited National vision.

“This is a bold testament to Zimbabwe’s unwavering commitment to turning                 vision into tangible transformation.”

The ministry said through MOTDC, Government is contributing land equity to unlock private sector investment.

The development will bolster key facilities including the under-construction International Multi-purpose Cricket Stadium, medical facilities, a golf estate, hotels, villas, chalets, lodges, a commercial centre, holiday homes, the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange, a financial district, shopping mall, and a tourism academy.

“This transformative development will strengthen critical infrastructure, positioning Zimbabwe as a Competitive, Sustainable and high-value Tourism destination,” the Ministry added.

“It will elevate tourist experiences, stimulate economic growth and contribute meaningfully to the National Development Strategy 2.”

The project is expected to catapult Victoria Falls towards attaining Vision 2030, transforming the resort city into a vibrant economic development hub.

JR Goddard consortium clinches deal to develop 271ha Victoria Falls commercial zone

 HARARE – The government has approved a joint venture deal with a consortium led by construction magnate JR Goddard to develop 271.5 hectares of commercial land near Victoria Falls.

The parcel – Lot 1 of Jafuta Estate – sits within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone, which is located inside the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area, one of southern Africa’s premier tourism corridors.

Under the agreement announced following a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the state investment arm Mosi Oa Tunya Development Company will contribute the land as equity, valued at US$25.6 million, giving government a 39 percent stake in the project. The JR Goddard (JRG) consortium will take 61 percent in return for committing US$66.9 million in infrastructure investment.

The partners will recoup profits over a 25-year period.

The Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) ran the competitive tender last year.

The consortium’s infrastructure obligations include construction of roads, a 13-kilometre water pipeline, a water treatment plant, sewerage systems, and a power substation to service the estate.

ZIDA investment promotion documents show the broader development vision for the Masuwe SEZ includes hotels, villas, flats and holiday homes at an estimated cost of US$79.8 million; core infrastructure for US$81.6 million; two medical centres at US$15 million; a commercial centre and international financial services hub worth US$17 million; a tourism and hospitality school for US$10.7 million; a golf estate for US$10 million; and a multipurpose international cricket stadium at a cost of US$7.5 million which is already under construction.

The SEZ was gazetted on September 28, 2018, with the declared objective of creating a tourism and financial services hub integrating tourism, recreation, sporting facilities, commercial amenities, and an International Finance Centre.

The JRG consortium includes project managers Sesani, civil and structural engineers Stewart Scott Zimbabwe, and financial advisors Genesis Global Finance.

It is the same grouping that is separately raising capital to build the Glass Block Dam on Umzingwane River in Matabeleland South intended to alleviate Bulawayo’s chronic water shortages.

Victoria Falls, which straddles the Zimbabwe-Zambia border, draws hundreds of thousands of tourists annually and is regarded as Zimbabwe’s most bankable tourism asset.

Cabinet approves PPP for Masuwe SEZ bulk infrastructure development, Victoria Falls

(Zimbabwe) CABINET has approved a landmark Public-Private Partnership for the development of bulk infrastructure on Lot 1 of Jafuta Estate in the Masuwe Special Economic Zone in Victoria Falls, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda has said.

Speaking after yesterday’s Cabinet meeting in Harare, Dr Soda said the proposal was endorsed between Mosi Oa Tunya Development Company (MTDC) and JR Goddard Private Limited (JRG).

“Cabinet approved the proposed Public-Private Partnership for the Development of Bulk Infrastructure on Lot 1 of Jafuta Estate in Masuwe Special Economic Zone, Victoria Falls, between Mosi Oa Tunya Development Company (MTDC) and JR Goddard Private Limited (JRG),” said Dr Soda.

“The Masuwe Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) is a flagship National Development Project which the Second Republic established in September 2018 with a strategic intent to transform Victoria Falls into a diversified, high-value hub integrating tourism, financial services and sustainable real estate.

“The Special Economic Zone encompasses a total of 1 200 hectares of Jafuta Estate, outside Victoria Falls City and is strategically located within the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA-TFCA)”.

He said the proposed project will entail the surfacing of an eight-kilometre internal road network, the upgrading of nine kilometres of gravel roads, and the construction of a 13-kilometre water pipeline covering the entire 1 200 hectares and neighbouring communities.

Other components include the construction of a package water treatment plant, a sewerage reticulation system, effluent reuse storage ponds, a power substation and the provision of management services for the Special Economic Zone.

Mosi-Oa-Tunya Development Company board embarks on familiarisation tour in Victoria Falls

 Mosi-Oa-Tunya Development Company (Private) Limited, the Government entity mandated to develop tourism infrastructure in Victoria Falls, has hit the ground running by touring key infrastructure projects under its portfolio as part of a familiarisation drive in Victoria Falls.

The newly appointed board, led by Mr Phineas Makombe, was recently appointed.

The meeting was aimed at enabling the board to gain a deeper appreciation of the company’s mandate, operations and priority programmes aligned to the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

“Mosi-Oa-Tunya Development Company (Private) Limited, the Government’s entity mandated to develop tourism infrastructure in Victoria Falls, under the stewardship of its newly appointed board led by chairperson Mr Phineas Makombe, convened a familiarisation meeting in Victoria Falls to gain a deeper appreciation of the company’s mandate, operations and priority programmes aligned to the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2),” the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry said in an update.

The board was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Dr Munyanyiwa, and the Finance Director, Mr Chirume, during an extensive tour of key projects and facilities under the company’s portfolio.

“Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Dr T Munyanyiwa, and the Finance Director, Mr C Chirume, the board toured the company’s current offices, the multi-purpose cricket stadium set to host the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, and offices under construction, gaining first-hand insight into projects enhancing destination competitiveness, advancing sports tourism and elevating the overall tourist experience,” reads the statement.

The familiarisation programme allowed the board to interact with management on ongoing and planned developments that are central to positioning Victoria Falls as a world-class tourism and sports destination, in line with Government’s broader economic transformation agenda.

“The engagement marked a strong and proactive opening phase to the board’s tenure, reaffirming its commitment to sound corporate governance, strategic oversight and the accelerated delivery of world-class tourism infrastructure in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe’s iconic tourism hub.”

ZIDA reveal Masuwe SEZ Development Plans

(31st October 2025)

Over the last month or so the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) Linked-In profile has been revealing details of key development projects proposed within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Victoria Falls, including plans for yet another hotel development.

In late September a post detailed the Masuwe Commercial Centre, a "flagship, multi-use development strategically located within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Victoria Falls" (ZIDA, September 2025).

The US$17 million development is located on a 31 hectare site adjacent to the new cricket stadium facility which is currently under construction and which we are confidently told "will host matches for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup" (the venues for the event are yet to be decided). We are also reliably informed that "international arrivals to Victoria Falls are projected to exceed 430,000 by 2026" (ZIDA, September 2025).

In mid-October a further post gave details of the Masuwe Hotel & Restaurant Project, a "a flagship investment poised to transform Victoria Falls." The description detailed the US$120 million '200-bed' development before going on to describe 120 4-star rooms and 80 5-star rooms, giving a total of 200 rooms (and an estimated 400 beds).

"This US$120 million development will rise on a 19-hectare site within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone, Zimbabwe’s first tourism-focused SEZ. It’s no ordinary resort: we’re delivering a 200-bed luxury complex (120 four-star and 80 five-star rooms) complete with high-end restaurants, a spa & wellness centre, conference facilities, and leisure amenities tailored to premium travellers. Crucially, the project is structured as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the government’s Mosi-Oa-Tunya Development Company ensuring strong public backing and strategic alignment. Located adjacent to the new 10,000 seat international cricket stadium (now under construction for World Cup 2027), this resort will be at the heart of Victoria Falls’ growth as a world-class destination" (ZIDA, October 2025).

"Lot 1 of Jafuta Estate owned by Mosi oa Tunya Development Company (Mosi) spanning 271.5 hectares is located in the Masuwe Special Economic Zone in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The development seeks to deliver eleven luxury double-story villas within a secure gated community on a 26-hectare piece of land within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Victoria Falls. The project is designed to address the shortage of premium villa-style accommodation in a market dominated by hotels, where demand is rising inline with international tourist arrivals. The development is supported by key documentation, including a Feasibility Study, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and detailed servicing cost reports for the entire SEZ." (ZIDA 2025, p53-54)

Zida courts investors for US$150m Victoria Falls project

 The Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) is actively seeking both local and international investors to participate in the development of Lot 1 of Jafuta Estate, a flagship project within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Victoria Falls. This ambitious initiative, owned by the Mosi oa Tunya Development Company, covers 271.5 hectares and was officially declared a Special Economic Zone on September 28, 2018, with the aim of establishing a world-class tourism and financial services hub.

The Masuwe SEZ is designed to enhance tourism-related activities by integrating tourism, recreational, and sporting facilities with commercial, medical, and conference centres, alongside an international finance centre and other complementary developments. Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe's premier tourism destination, offers an ideal backdrop for this project, which seeks to address the current shortage of high-quality amenities needed to support the growing tourism sector.

The development of Lot 1 involves extensive infrastructure work, including the construction of roads, water and sewer systems, power grids, and telecommunication networks to support the growth of the zone. Plans also include the building of new villas, lodges, and holiday homes, as well as a tourism and hospitality school aimed at nurturing local talent in the sector.

Commercial and financial services form a major part of the project, with the establishment of a commercial centre featuring retail spaces, office buildings, and an international financial services centre designed to attract global businesses. The project further incorporates two medical centres, a golf course, and a multi-purpose international cricket stadium, with construction of the stadium already underway.

The total estimated cost of the project is approximately US$150 million. Core infrastructure is expected to cost about US$81.6 million, while medical centres will require US$15.9 million. The construction of villas and holiday homes is projected at US$7.8 million, and the commercial and financial services centre will need around US$17 million. The tourism and hospitality school is estimated at US$10.7 million, the golf course at US$10 million, and the cricket stadium at US$7.5 million.

ZIDA is highlighting the project's potential to create significant employment opportunities, boost local economies, and position Zimbabwe as a competitive player in the global tourism and financial services markets. To attract investors, the agency is offering various incentives, including tax breaks, streamlined regulatory processes, and guaranteed repatriation of profits.

New Mecca of Zimbabwe Cricket takes shape

 ZIMBABWE Cricket (ZC) Managing Director, Givemore Makoni, has announced significant progress at the Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium, situated in the resort city of Victoria Falls. The foundation stone for the multi-purpose 10 000-seater stadium was laid in May last year, and Makoni told Saturday Chronicle that most of the groundwork has been completed. The stadium is set to be finished in time for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which Zimbabwe will co-host with South Africa and Namibia.

Makoni reported that substantial progress has been made in earthworks, with the field levelled and centre and nets wickets planted.

“We have made significant progress in terms of earthwork. Levelling the ground has been done to ensure that the outfield maintains the same levels. We have also planted wickets on the main pitch and for practice. We have also done the 30 yards for the main pitch. Right now, we are working on the grass embankment, and then the main building structures will follow soon after. We have also secured the area with an electric fence. So, we have really made some significant progress, and everything is well on course and up to plan,” said Makoni.

In addition to the 2027 World Cup, Zimbabwe will co-host the 2026 ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup with Namibia. Makoni stated that the new ground, touted as the “New Mecca” of Zimbabwean cricket, is primarily earmarked for the 2027 global showpiece.

“The Mosi-oa-Tunya Cricket Stadium is earmarked mainly for the 2027 World Cup. Maybe there might be some practice sessions held there for the Under-19 World Cup, but the target is 2027. We are confident that we will meet that target,” Makoni said.

ZC was awarded 10 hectares within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone for the construction of the stadium. Located in a coveted tourist destination, the stadium is set to eclipse the conventional cricketing hub — Harare Sports Club — with the magnetic charm and splendour of Victoria Falls. The stadium is expected to be a visual delight, a sterling addition not only to Zimbabwe but to the international cricket community. Moreover, it is anticipated to be a significant boon for the nation’s sports tourism sector.

Makoni highlighted that the stadium would also benefit the local community, having a substantial tourism impact. Apart from Victoria Falls, he revealed plans to ensure that every province in the country gets a first-class international facility to spread and develop the game in all corners of the country.

“Our main objective is to make sure that cricket is the number one sport in the country. The stadium in Victoria Falls is huge for tourism; there is a footprint there. Apart from that, we have also earmarked land in Dangamvura in Mutare and in Gweru to develop first-class venues. We also have the Zimbabwe Cricket Academy being built in Matabeleland South in Esigodini. We are on point in trying to decentralise and spread the game across the country,” he said.

Makoni further said that part of their decentralisation effort is to ensure that everyone gets the chance to play cricket, as it is a game that can change lives.

“We want everyone to play cricket. We want the majority, from all backgrounds, to be able to play cricket. Cricket makes a difference; look at the likes of Tatenda Taibu, Chris Mpofu, and Hamilton Masakadza, for example. We want kids all over, down in remote areas, to play cricket; that’s our main target. We want disadvantaged kids to play cricket. There is nothing special about this game; it’s a game for everyone, and for all,” said Makoni.

The 2027 Cricket World Cup is scheduled for October/November. Meanwhile, the 2027 World Cup co-hosts, Namibia, have also made significant progress with their FNB Namibia Cricket Ground, situated in Windhoek. The 7 000-seater state-of-the-art facility is nearing completion and will be the first venue in Namibia to host any World Cup game.

“The journey to developing Namibia’s new international cricket stadium has been a meticulously planned process, aligning with our vision of positioning the country as a top-tier Associate Member. Having a world-class cricket venue is a milestone that solidifies Namibia’s status as a leading Associate Member. It signifies our commitment to long-term cricketing excellence, not only in on-field performance but in administrative and infrastructural development. This stadium will serve as a beacon for cricket in Africa, ensuring Namibia remains a host nation for top-tier ICC events and a key player in global cricket discussions,” said Cricket Namibia CEO, Johan Muller.

Construction of Vic Falls multi-purpose cricket stadium on course

 Construction of the multi-purpose Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls is progressing well, with significant ground having been covered in terms of earthworks and pitch development.

The facility is a cornerstone of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC)’s ambitious infrastructure development plan.

This comes at a time when Zimbabwe is preparing to co-host the 2026 under-19 Cricket World Cup alongside Namibia and the 2027 men’s Cricket World Cup with South Africa and Namibia.

The project is on track, with 50% of the main pitch having been constructed.

“We have made significant progress in the earthworks. We’ve levelled Pitch A, the main pitch, and the practice pitch. Planting has commenced on the main square, including the wicket and the 30-yard area. The good news is this planting coincides with the rains. I’m told there’s been good rainfall in Victoria Falls, which is very encouraging. While the rains have temporarily slowed work on the practice pitch due to water logging, overall progress is substantial,” said managing director of Zimbabwe Cricket, Givemore Makoni.

Construction of other facilities is expected to begin soon.

“Construction work on the media centres, players’ changing rooms, and grandstands is scheduled to begin in March this year. We are on course in terms of the field work and adhering to our phased plan. We are confident in meeting all our deadlines,” said Mr Makoni.

Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency, a parastatal under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, is the main contractor.

Designed as a multi-purpose facility, the stadium will host cricket matches and other sporting events.
The cricket stadium, a flagship project within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Victoria Falls, is expected to boost tourism and economic growth.

Other major developments underway in the Masuwe SEZ include a convention centre with associated hotels and villas, a golf estate, a medical tourism facility, a commercial central business district, an international service centre, and high-end residential units.
