Presidential blessing for Victoria Falls Cricket Stadium

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has said Government fully supports the construction of the 10 000-seater cricket stadium in Victoria Falls, framing it as a national priority and a landmark investment in sport and tourism.

The stadium is rising within the Masuwe Special Economic Zone, a key development node near the resort city.

“Government commends the ongoing work on the 10 000-seater Cricket Stadium in the Masuwe Special Economic Zone in Victoria Falls,” said the President on Monday, speaking at the launch of the Zimbabwe Tourism and Hospitality Industry Policy at State House.

Stepping briefly away from his prepared speech,President Mnangagwa quipped that ultimate responsibility for the project lies with Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Minister Barbara Rwodzi.

“If it doesn’t come out well, it is not my fault, ask that one,” he joked. “I told her I will support her with whatever she imagines is needed, so it depends on her imagination.”

The stadium is among Zimbabwe Cricket’s flagship infrastructure projects. It’s seen as critical to the country’s preparations for co-hosting two major global tournaments: the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup and the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, alongside Namibia and South Africa.

Cabinet reported last week that construction is progressing well, with the media centre and training pitch now 50 percent and 40 percent complete, respectively.

The stadium is expected to bolster Zimbabwe’s profile as an international cricket destination while boosting tourism traffic to Victoria Falls.
